Hall may have landed in Atlanta because he had a heck of an internal recommendation. Atlanta’s new defensive backs coach is Jon Hoke, brother of San Diego State head coach Brady Hoke, and Darren isn t the only one on the way to Georgia. SDSU safety Dwayne Johnson Jr. signed with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent. Johnson is one of the harder hitters in college football and was a 2019 Honorable Mention All-American. Aztecs safety Traiq Thompson is also heading east, but going a lot farther north. Thompson signed a free agent deal with the Buffalo Bills, who were one step shy of the Super Bowl last season. A freshman All-American, Thompson finished his SDSU career with 11 interceptions.

Karl Scott Top Candidate For Big 10 Coordinator Job The mass exodus of the Alabama 2020 football staff apparently is continuing. Defensive backs coach Karl Scott is apparently the top choice for the Maryland defensive coordinator job, according to Matt Zeniz of AL.com. Scott has coached cornerbacks for the last three seasons for the Crimson Tide. Alabama has produced several top defensive backs under his tutelage in Tuscaloosa. Alabama has had three defensive backs already drafted in his time and will expect to have another first rounder this year in Patrick Surtain. His first year in Tuscaloosa he worked alongside current Maryland head coach, Mike Locksley who was offensive coordinator.

Phillips, who was also the Terrapins co-offensive coordinator, is leaving the program to join the staff at North Carolina State, a person familiar with the situation said Tuesday. Last week, Michigan football announced the hire of George Helow, who served as Maryland s special teams coordinator and inside linebackers coach last season. Helow will coach safeties at Michigan. Helow worked at Maryland for one year before heading to the fellow Big Ten East program.
