Global airline chiefs must be even more careful about cash as they revive their operations amid signs of recovery in air travel as they have been when trying to conserve capital over the past year, the International Air Transport Association s chief said.
Carriers have to be cautious about the pace of rebuilding their networks as they balance increasing costs with a relatively slower trickle of revenue, Willie Walsh, director-general of Iata, said in a pre-recorded interview with aviation consultant John Strickland during the Arabian Travel Market Virtual conference. For some airlines actually the cash crunch is ahead of them because they will face the real cash challenge when they start to try to ramp up their business, because they don t have the traditional cash reserves from sales in advance of carriage, Mr Walsh said.

What are the EU air restrictions?
In a swift response to Sunday’s incident, the EU’s 27 leaders on Monday called for airlines based in the bloc to stop flying in Belarusian airspace.
They vowed to ban Belarusian airlines from entering EU airspace, although this needs to be authorised by the European Council.
German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said the response from the EU would “have very noticeable consequences”.
“Not only for the airlines but also for the country. This is the first step,” he said.
