ST JOHN’S Winchester wants to close its specialist dementia care home Moorside in Winchester city centre. The charity has announced a consultation to shut the home and use the building for other uses, as reported in the Chronicle last week. St John s says it will seek the views of resident representatives and families,and staff, starting on May 10 to finish by mid-June. Moorside, situated on Durngate only opened in 1996 but has become unsuitable for modern care, says the charity. Chairman of trustees Roger Bright, in a statement, said: “After considerable thought and discussion, with great regret we have concluded in principle that providing dementia care at Moorside is not viable in the medium and long term.

The statement said: In response to rumours in circulation that its St John’s Moorside care home may close, St John’s Winchester announces that the charity is carrying out a review of its strategy and operations in light of the financial and other impacts of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, including its care home providing nursing care to those living with dementia.
