Berks commissioners seek to discuss cleanup of Exide properties with EPA

Berks County commissioners agreed this week to invite representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency to a future operations meeting to discuss the cleanup of former Exide properties, including a Hamburg Superfund site. Commissioners Chairman Christian Leinbach and Commissioner Kevin Barnhardt said Thursday that they would like to have an EPA representative give an update on the situation in the Hamburg area. Leinbach acknowledged that residents have been frustrated in finding answers to their questions about the site and nearby Kaercher Creek Lake Park. Commissioners recently learned that the EPA is in the midst of an ecological assessment of Kaercher Creek, below Kaercher Park, Mill Creek and the Kaercher Creek floodplain at the confluence with the Schuylkill River.

Compass says it’s not one of them. The brokerage alleges in a new lawsuit that REBNY has conspired with Douglas Elliman and the Corcoran Group to “thwart” its business in New York City. The complaint was filed in federal court for the Southern District of New York Friday afternoon. (Elliman and Corcoran are not defendants in the case, but are cited throughout.) Compass said it was bringing the suit to “halt REBNY and its co-conspirators’ anticompetitive scheme, release from their market dominance, and reinvigorate the competitive process.”
