Bluesville Groovy is the word for the bluesy big-band swing of this good-time set from Swingadelic, a mainstay of Restaurant Row s Swing 46 Jazz and Supper Club in New York City. Scottish nationalism was my gateway drug to politics. The year was 1979. I was 15 an age when it is easy to confuse the mood of a crowd of football fans with the case for a constitutional change. The year before, Scotland had made it to the soccer World Cup finals in Argentina. They had not progressed beyond the first round, having lost to Peru and drawn with Iran, but they had somehow managed to beat the Netherlands 3-2, and the beautiful goal scored by Archie Gemmill was engraved in all our memories.

Residents were advised to avoid the area if possible whilst emergency services were at the scene. Following the blaze one man suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital as a precaution. He is not understood to have been harmed in the blaze. But the first property was completely destroyed in the fire, leaving the resident homeless. Following an investigation, the fire service believe the fire was caused accidentally after embers from a fireplace ignited a nearby carpet. Fire Investigator John Lloyd said: Firefighters have done a brilliant job in responding so professionally to this incident. Fortunately no-one was injured.
