Ayrshire distributed half a million meals during the COVID pandemic

Ayrshire has distributed the equivalent of more than 500,000 meals across Scotland during the pandemic. The statistics were revealed by Scotland’s biggest food distribution charity, FareShare. The numbers show that between April 2020 and March 2021, 221 tonnes, or the equivalent to 526,201 meals, were distributed to communities in Scotland. A breakdown shows that East Ayrshire accounted for 137 tonnes, North Ayrshire for 55, and South Ayrshire made up 29 tonnes of the food given across the country. In total, almost 7,000 tonnes of food were divided up to be sent onto a network of around 750 charities and community groups.
