FAYETTE CO., Ala. (WBRC) - The Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center will host a ribbon cutting tomorrow, at a new storefront where West Alabama veterans can go for their medical care.
“They’re actually going to be doing care tomorrow, including giving vaccines,” Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center Director John Merkle explained.
He said veterans in Fayette County and surrounding areas will benefit from the new location.
The storefront clinic is now inside the DCH Medical Office Building on Temple Avenue North Fayette.

A familiar face will be presenting remotely to the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University community, thanks to the Jay Phillips Center for Interfaith Learning at Saint John’s University.
President Emerita Mary Dana Hinton, Ph.D., who led CSB from 2014 through June 2020, will be a speaker at “Religion, Education and Peace,” the Jay Phillips Center’s third international conference March 4-5. The conference is sponsored and organized jointly with Haigazian University of Beirut, Lebanon.
Conference sessions are from 8-11 a.m. (CST) each day (4-7 p.m. in Beirut). Registration for the online webinar conference, which is limited to 100 people, may be made by sending an email.
U.S. Navy veteran Robert Love was among the 30 veterans to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday morning at the Tuscaloosa Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was not reluctant to take the vaccination. I don’t think you should be hesitant at all. I had a friend who died from it (COVID-19). That really put an influence on me. My church is closed. I can’t go anywhere and do anything. It is time to start doing something, Love said.
The VA Medical Center began vaccinations Tuesday. April Jones, the center s acting public information officer, said We began our COVID-19 vaccine clinic Tuesday and vaccinated 30 outpatient veterans. We have 30 more scheduled for today and after the kinks are worked out, we will increase that throughput.
