Amanda Chase, Who Pushed Trump to Declare Martial Law, Loses GOP Nomination for Virginia Governor

Amanda Chase, Who Pushed Trump to Declare Martial Law, Loses GOP Nomination for Virginia Governor On 5/11/21 at 9:52 AM EDT Virginia Republicans opted not to put their faith in Amanda Chase, a self-described Trump in heels, to beat out Democrats for the governor s seat in November. Chase, a state senator, made national headlines for accusing Democrats of treason in the 2020 election and advocating for former President Donald Trump to declare martial law to remain in power. She took issue with the decision to hold the Saturday convention instead of a primary election, and on Tuesday, she lost her bid for the GOP nomination for Virginia governor despite strong polling.

Virginia GOP set for wild, unpredictable convention

Tens of thousands of Virginia Republicans will head to community colleges, church parking lots and county fairgrounds on Saturday to choose nominees in what activists and officials say remains an unpredictable battle for the near-term future of a party that has not won a statewide election in a dozen years. For the candidates vying for the right to run for governor under the Republican banner, the divergent options they present to voters is less about how to move on from former President Trump The delegates will choose among seven contenders running for the Republican nomination to replace Gov. Ralph Northam (D), who is limited to serving one term. Virginia Republicans Fail to Approve Absentee Voting for Observant Jews

: The Republican Party of Virginia s State Central Committee met over Zoom on Thursday night.  Observant Jews in Virginia will have to forgo observing the Sabbath to participate in the Saturday, May 8 Republican nominating conventions. The party’s top decision-making body, the State Central Committee, failed to approve a proposal late Thursday night that would have allowed people with religious obligations to vote absentee. While a majority of the SCC voted in favor of the plan, the 38-28 vote did not clear the necessary 75% threshold needed to modify the party plan. The disagreement is the latest in a series of tense Zoom meetings centered on who should be allowed to vote for party nominees and how they should do it. The SCC held several marathon sessions this winter on whether to hold a convention or a primary a process that dragged on through March. They eventually settled on a “disassembled” convention to be held at sites across the state. Registered del

Schools, guns hot topics at GOP gubernatorial candidate forum in Lynchburg

BY SARAH HONOSKY The News & Advance Five of the candidates vying for the Republican nomination for governor met on stage Monday at Thomas Road Baptist Church, where more than 100 people gathered for a forum hosted by the College Republicans at Liberty University. Reopening schools, supporting gun rights and rolling back COVID-19 restrictions dominated the conversation. While the GOP candidates are competing for their party’s nomination, to be decided by a May 8 unassembled convention, they appeared united against the apparent Democratic frontrunner, former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who is contending with four others for his party’s nomination in a June 8 primary.
