Offering an expansive vision of what the United States should be, McGowan combines the thinking of philosophers like John Dewey and William James with the ethos of comedy to imagine what American life could be like if we more fully embraced values such as love, forgiveness, and generosity that are too often left out of our political discourse.

The decision was announced on Sunday, January 31, at the Auckland Folk Festival. The award is the 2021 Tūī for Te Kapuoro Taketake Toa. It s the second time Cy Winstanley and Vanessa McGowan have won it - the first was in 2014. They have often performed in Whanganui because Vanessa s father, John McGowan, lives here. Full story here

The group won for their third studio album, Dancing Under The Dogwoods. This is the second time the duo has won Best Folk Artist, winning in 2014 for their album How Red Is The Blood. Made up of Cy Winstanley and Vanessa McGowan, Tattletale Saints crafted an album which showcases the band s perfectly intertwined harmony vocals and Winstanley s clever yet emotional songwriting.
