The pathogen behind strangles has a useful party trick: Researchers want to know more

"Host-associated differences are a more likely explanation of the bacterium’s ability to persist in horses without resulting in either clinical signs or a robust immune response."

New ILT board member wants to give the youth a voice

“Gotta start somewhere, right?” she said. Evans, 33, campaigned on wanting to provide a younger voice for the ILT board, to attract and engage the younger generation. She wants Invercargill to be more vibrant and feels the ILT can help that by providing more diversity in its hospitality offerings. She is also vocal about Southland menus not having enough Southland food in them. “I very much want to see local food on local menus, and am already starting those conversations outside ILT. So, I think this will be a great platform to boost that conversation,” Evans said. Evans admitted her goals could be a bit lofty and that change takes time but nevertheless she was committed.

Less than 25 per cent voter turnout for Invercargill Licensing Trust by-election

The successful candidate will join Alan Dennis, Paddy O’Brien, Suzanne Prentice, Sean Bellew, and Angela Newell at the ILT table. As of Wednesday morning, 7730 votes had been cast from the pool of 32,372 eligible voters, meaning a 23.88 per cent voter turnout to date. It is the second by-election held in Invercargill this year following February’s Invercargill City Council by-election. The council by-election attracted 14,700 votes which was a 36.58 per cent turnout. Those who still want to vote in the ILT by-election will need to drop voting papers off to the council’s office in Esk Street, or at the Invercargill Public Library.

Tearoom reopens at Hospital of St Cross

SINCE March 2020 the tearoom at the Hospital of St Cross has been closed to visitors. But thanks to a generous grant from the Friends of St Cross the hall has been carefully renovated during the closure. The work was planned and overseen by Louise Bainbridge (Seymour and Bainbridge Architects) and carried out by Hospital staff and specialist contractors. The picture shows John Pringle, chairman of the Friends cutting the re-opening ribbon, with the Master of St Cross, Rev Terry Hemming, Jonathan Cooke, chairman of the Trustees of the Hospital of St Cross and Janet Rowland-White, the HMH co-ordinator. The Hundred Men’s Hall tearoom is open Monday to Saturday 10.30am to 12.30pm and 2.30 to 4.30pm, Sundays 2.30pm to 4.40pm.

Jamaica – MAXIM Australia

Where to play like James Bond and rock out like Harry Styles, Beyoncé and Jay-Z… From the moment Ursula Andress struck one of the world’s most iconic female silhouettes, strolling sensuously from the surf in 1962’s Dr. No, there’s been an undeniable chemistry between James Bond and Jamaica. Turns out the sultry relationship is back on simmer in the latest in the 25-film franchise, No Time to Die, which like the original takes place partly in the Caribbean island nation. According to Forbes, cast and crew gathered at Ian Fleming’s GoldenEye estate-turned-resort to kick off production of Bond 25, with many remaining to film scenes on the island. Daniel Craig’s fifth and final Bond outing will be released this April. For a film franchise that increasingly enjoys self-referential nods to its own canon, it’s no surprise they found a way to return to the idyllic island.
