Jan 06, 2021 10:20:27 AM A temporary water distribution point is now open at Bakana Jetty in Vanua Levu through the combined efforts of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and Australian Defense Force (ADF). The water purification desalination system was set up by the Australian Army in line with strict covid-safe protocols and in conjunction with the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF). The system is now generating safe, potable water to Tropical Cyclone Yasa impacted communities on the island. Over 13,000 liters of clean water has already been distributed by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF). Australia’s High commissioner to Fiji John Feakes in a tweet acknowledged the RFMF and ADF for the installation of the temporary water purification system which will generate safe portable water for the TC Yasa impacted communities in Vanua Levu.

A second delivery of relief supplies flown in on a Royal Australian Air Force C-17 aircraft landed at Nadi International Airport yesterday.
The aircraft brought in more than 640 shelter kits, more than 280 hygiene kits, medical supplies, chainsaws and parts, solar streetlights and lighting supplies.
Supplies from UKAID, Red Cross, UNICEF and Care were also delivered.
“Australia is committed to backing the Fijian Government’s quick response by ensuring additional relief supplies are available,” said Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes.

Australia has sent more relief items to help those who have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Yasa.
Another Royal Australian Air Force C-17 aircraft landed at the Nadi International Airport yesterday afternoon with the additional TC Yasa relief supplies.

Feakes says the Fijian Government, NDMO and local support services are doing a phenomenal job coordinating the distribution of supplies to impacted communities.

The Rotary Club of Peninsula Sunset collected $800 cash and 35 bags of relief items during their disaster relief initiative collection at the ROC Market in Suva, and donations continue to pour in.
Community Service Director Prashant Anuraag says the support from the people of Fiji towards the initiative has been tremendous and they are thankful that people have shown their support to those who have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Yasa.

Fijian legal practitioners were urged to protect the country’s sovereignty by carefully managing foreign investment risks.
Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes made the comment while opening the 22nd Attorney-General’s Conference in Natadola yesterday.
He said protecting Fiji’s sovereignty began at home.
“Your country has a proud record of punching above your weight in the United Nations,” Mr Feakes said.
“Your global advocacy on climate change and oceans, leadership at the human rights council and decades of peacekeeping in some of the dangerous places in the world.
