It was one of the most sensational crime stories of the last 20 years. The case attracted national and international media attention. There are parallels between Scott Peterson, the handsome, eerily unemotional husband whose wife goes missing and the Ben Affleck character in the blockbuster movie Gone Girl.
Peterson, 48, appeared in a San Mateo, California court via video link on Tuesday
His attorneys are seeking to have his 2004 murder conviction overturned
They claim to have new witnesses and suspects they believe are the true killers
Peterson was sentenced to death for the 2002 murder of his pregnant wife, Laci
But death sentence was overturned last year over errors in jury selection

MOOSE, Wyo. (KIFI) - Grand Teton National Park Jenny Lake Rangers and the Teton Interagency Helitack Team were recently awarded the 2020 National Park Service Tom Clausing All-Risk Program Award.
This national award recognizes work and interaction with others while rendering all-risk services, promotes innovation and professionalism and advances aviation all-risk programs.
National Park Service rangers Scott Guenther and Case Martin, USDA Forest Service interagency helitack team members Mike Bentley and Travis Nichols and pilot Zaron Welch were recognized for their risk-management leadership and actions during incidents this past year with the COVID-19 pandemic.

DENVER Gov. Jared Polis (D-Colorado) issued four commutations and 18 pardons Wednesday. Among the people who received a pardon are the parents involved in the 2009 “balloon boy” incident that made international headlines.
“We are all ready to move past the spectacle from a decade ago that wasted precious time and resources of law enforcement officials and the general public,” Polis said in a news release announcing the pardons for Richard and Mayumi Heene. “Richard and Mayumi have paid the price in the eyes of the public, served their sentences, and it’s time for all of us to move on.
