The Scottish Conservatives have matched their best performance in the Scottish election, winning 31 seats.
The party picked up two seats on the regional lists, offsetting the loss of two constituencies.
Scottish Conservatives leader Douglas Ross took over the party in August last year.
He said he would continue to fight SNP plans for an independence referendum in the new parliamentary term.
The Conservatives finished on the same total as 2016, winning a total of 31 seats.
The SNP s former Westminster leader Angus Robertson took Edinburgh Central, beating Scott Douglas, who was seeking to hold Ruth Davidson s former seat.

More than a quarter of Holyrood s MSPs are not seeking re-election to the Scottish Parliament this year.
SCOTTISH Labour has unveiled a Highlands and Islands manifesto which includes a promise to invest in Scotlandâs ferry fleet and devolve more powers from Edinburgh to local communities.
Party leader Anas Sarwar said: âFor many communities in the Highlands and Islands the pandemic exposed the challenges they have long faced.

âFrom poor digital connectivity to isolation to barriers in healthcare access, the difficulties posed by the pandemic are by no means new to communities in the Highlands and Islands.
âThe Highlands and Islands cannot afford another five years of bickering about the same old arguments. The next parliament needs to be focused on rebuilding your economy and your communities after Covid.â
