Boothbay Region YMCA: Community Catalyst for Good

Courtesy of BRYMCA Have you ever experienced climbing a high ladder and zip-lining back to the ground? How about balancing on a moving log beam while walking across to the other side? Did you know that the Boothbay Region YMCA offers these adventures along with a full high and low ropes course right here in our community as an extension of Camp Knickerbocker? When the Y began its summer camp in 1956, it was located on the Back Narrows Road in Boothbay. While offering a new summer camp experience for youth in the community was welcomed, the location held challenges for programming. The move to Barter’s Island Road was a strategic effort to allow for fresh water swimming. Now, with 65 acres, the property includes the main Camp K campus, Jackson Island (located in between Little and Big Knickerbocker lakes), the Jackson House, and the Baldwin Adventure Center w

Volunteers cultivate finishing touches on Rockport s Memorial Park

Pat Cole Members of the Rockport Parks and Beautification Committee took to Memorial Park in mid-May to spread three yards of mulch throughout the garden beds.  The group consisted of of Doug and Pat Cole, Sally Cook, Jan Baldwin, Paula Coyne, Denise Munger and Haunani Wallace, all who spent the better part of two hours completing the task.  Meanwhile, Lea Anne Dunton was studying the remaining area to be landscaped at the Rockport Public Library, laying out the design for the plants the town is purchasing.  Those, too, will need to be planted by volunteers.   The Park was redesigned by the committee after it was used as a staging area for the construction of the new library.  The Select Board tasked the committee members with restoring it back to its original state, or an improved state. 

AUTHORITIES ARREST MAN AFTER DRUG BUST

COOPER COUNTY AUTHORITIES ARREST ONE IN DRUG BUST

Multiple law-enforcement agencies worked together during a drug bust last week. According to Cooper County Sheriff Chris Class, on Thursday, May 13, members of the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office, Boonville Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and East Central Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at an address on Poertner Street in Boonville. Large quantities of marijuana, THC wax and THC vape cartridges were seized, along with U.S. currency and a firearm. The suspect was taken into custody pending formal charges. In other news, on Friday, May 14, a warrant was issued and served to John Baldwin, of Boonville. The warrant is charging Baldwin with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Use of a Weapon-Subsection 11-Possess Weapon and a Felony Controlled Substance, and Keeping or Maintaining A Public Nuisance. Baldwin’s bond is set at $15,000 cash or surety.
