Riccio, who has been with Apple since 1998, isn’t as well-known as Tim Cook or Phil Schiller, but he’s been an integral part of nearly every major Apple product this century. Riccio took on the role of senior vice president of Hardware Engineering when Bob Mansfield retired in 2012. At the time, Riccio was vice president of iPad Hardware Engineering, a position he took on in 2010, right as the original iPad launched.

John Ternus has been the VP under Riccio since 2013 and led the team that designed the hardware of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, as well as working on the M1 chip. As SVP of Hardware Engineering Ternus will lead the engineering of the Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod and will report directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Riccio joined Apple in 1998 following a stint at Compaq where he worked as a senior manager of mechanical engineering. At Apple, he served as vice president of product design until mid-2010 when he became VP of the iPad division. According to his LinkedIn bio, he has served as senior vice president of hardware engineering since August 2012.
