CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The City of Charleston voted on Tuesday to lift their mask mandate to keep in line with Gov. Henry McMaster’s order from earlier today. The city’s mandate had required people to wear masks in city buildings.
City Council continues to strongly encourage people to follow CDC and DHEC guidelines to reduce COVID transmission.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Charlestonâs police chief said an arrest has been made in connection with stabbings early Sunday morning on King Street.
Authorities identified the suspect as 18-year-old Zyarie Dazure Orum of North Charleston. She was arrested Tuesday afternoon and has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm/knife during the commission of a violent crime.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A group of Lowcountry organizations are renewing calls for transparency within the Charleston Police Department.
The Charleston Peopleâs Budget Coalitionâs goals are to advocate for an equitable city budget and the elimination of poverty and racial disparities.
The city of Charleston approved a FY21 budget in December allocating roughly $54 million to the police department. The coalition is now submitting a Freedom of Information Act request for a detailed line-item budget of the department.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg hinted at a news conference Monday afternoon that the city could ease its mask ordinance and social distancing rules as early as next week.
But that, he said, depends on more people being vaccinated against COVID-19.
“We’re getting close, but we’re not quite there yet,” he said at a Monday afternoon news conference. “And it’s not just about the economy, y’all, it’s about life, it’s about our public health, about our human health.”
Tecklenburg said Charleston City Council will meet on May 11, and that many of the city’s ordinances related to COVID-19 expire on May 12.
