MATTAPOISETT Barry Denham is leaving two vacancies behind this year, as he steps back from his position as Highway Surveyor and Veterans Agent.
The Selectmen thanked him for his time with the town and discussed how to handle the surveyor position moving forward at a Feb. 16 meeting.
“I don’t think there’s a day I can say you haven’t given it your all,” Selectman Jordan Collyer said.
Denham suggested that once he’s no longer surveyor, the town do some restructuring of the positions in the Highway Department, including the expansion of existing positions to serve more roles and the addition of a foreman.

MATTAPOISETT With the Rail Trail bike path getting closer to its opening, the town is looking to finalize what extra additions to place around it.
According to Friends of the Bike Path treasurer Renee Pothier, the group has an excess of funds from its fall campaign. Pothier added that the intention is to use the money to get amenities, signs, and matching grants for the trail.
“It needs more input from the town,” she said. “Some items may need to come off the list and some items may need more definition.”
Selectman John DeCosta noted that proposed amenities include things like benches, trash cans, and environmental signs.
