Madison County residents and representatives gathered at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Friday morning to commemorate the annual National Law Enforcement Memorial Service Day, and to remember the fallen officers of West Tennessee.
Announced at the ceremony was the creation of Police Officers Memorial Day, to be honored throughout Madison County on May 15, 2021.
The proclamation was presented by Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris and Jackson City Mayor Scott Conger.
“This community will never forget (the fallen’s) service and their sacrifice for this community and for the state of Tennessee,” said Harris. “Thank you all that wear a uniform, no matter what your function is, because without you, our society would (be chaos). Thank you for your service we cherish the memories of those who have given their all in the line of duty protecting our community. We will never forget.”
Port of Spain malls closed, merchants sell outside
Downtown Owners and Merchants Association president Gregory Aboud
At least one Port of Spain mall was closed down by police on Friday, a day after new and tighter restrictions were implemented by the Prime Minister on Thursday.
The mall – Bradford City Mall – was the last of several walk-through malls and plazas that closed their gates in the capital, leaving business owners in the malls to stop business completely or sell their goods on the street.
John Saba, store manager at Bradford Mall, told Newsday the store partitioned itself off from the rest of the mall, but police still said it was in breach of the regulations.
