Even before officials locked the gates and razed Vista’s only skate park in 2008, Jack Flaherty promised himself and fellow disappointed skateboarders that he would push until they once again had a spot of their own.
It took nine years, lots of lobbying, and a residential building boom for it to happen. But Vista took the wrapping off two new skate parks over the weekend, sister sites that dwarf the old park.
“I’m glad it got done while I could still use it,” the 52-year-old Flaherty said with a laugh this week. “I was trying to stay in shape just for that.”

His two dishes a fried shrimp tostada and cheeseburger pizza together scored 87 total points to his competitorsâ 81 and 79. All three participants were previously featured in host Guy Fieriâs other show, âDiners, Drive-Ins and Dives.â Both Fat Olives and Salsa Brava, Conleyâs two restaurants, now have been on the show.
