A NORTH Berwick activist and volunteer has joined the call for East Lothian health and wellbeing organisations to join a national group lobbying the Scottish Government for partnership and support. Sue Northrop, director of Dementia Friendly East Lothian (DFEL) and a former member of North Berwick Community Council, has said small charitable organisations that join Scottish Communities for Health and Wellbeing (SCHW) will be able to “realise their potential”. She told the Courier: “Since the Covid outbreak, many income streams for charities and community organisations have dried up, but demand and need have rocketed. “DFEL joined SCHW to link up with other communities who share our aims and vision, and to explore new ways of resourcing and supporting community organisations so they have the support they need to realise their potential.”

One year after the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the Chicago-area industrial market’s vacancy and rental rates have nearly returned to pre-pandemic levels, according to a new report from Newmark.
Although the industrial sector took a hit in the first few weeks of the crisis, it began climbing back once the shock wore off and tenants saw increased demand from homebound consumers purchasing goods online. Many resumed signing leases, sending vacancy down to 6.2% in Q1 2021, a decade low, and recently have shown a willingness to pay more for space. Courtesy of Newmark
“This sentiment of only a slight dip in the market as opposed to a full long-term stop is reflected in the rental rates on transactions completed during the pandemic,” according to the Newmark report.

A domestic abuser forced a cigarette into his victim’s mouth and left her with ash and scorch marks during a brutal, sustained attack which spanned five days.
Ross Ramsay, 39, knocked his then-partner out cold at one stage and screamed at her to get up as she lay unconscious on the floor.
Dundee Sheriff Court was told a young child witness screamed at Ramsay to get off because he was throttling the woman during the prolonged attack.
Fiscal depute Lora Apostolova told the court Ramsay hurled vile insults and abuse at his girlfriend as he repeatedly attacked her.
