The Council’s Conservation Officer Jon Ackroyd said: “The Nags Head is a former pub dating from the early 19th century. “It may have been purpose built to serve traffic on the Bradford to Halifax turnpike which would have been a busy route at the time. “The building has not been used as a pub in a number of years, and is now in poor condition, with abortive internal works leaving the interior in a stripped and rather dangerous state. “It is evident however that the interior has previously been altered on multiple occasions during pub use, and nothing of significance remains.

Visionary engineer and family man John Ackroyd dies at the age of 83

OBITUARY John Ackroyd was famed for the part he played in a number of world records on land, water and in the air. A VISIONARY engineer and family man, known for breaking the land speed world record, has died at the age of 83. John Gilbert Ackroyd was born in Muttra, India, on January 31, 1937 to father Major HJ Ackroyd and mother Kay, and brought up in the foothills of the Himalayas until the age of seven when the family returned to wartime England. Mr Ackroyd was the eldest of two siblings, growing up with brother, David. After primary education, he was sent to prep school in Folkestone and then to Ardingly College where he achieved excellent academic qualifications.

Plans to create food court in Conservation Area are refused

The proposed site of the new food business PLANS to create a food court in a city centre Conservation Area have been refused by planning officers. Late last year an application was submitted to Bradford Council that called for a section of pay and display car park on Sunbridge Road to be converted into an outdoor eatery. It would have seen shipping containers installed in the walled car park area at National House, and seating for 92 diners, both outdoor seating and seating under a new roof that would be installed between the containers. The application, by Sheraz Akram, said the plans would inject life back into that area of the city.
