A BBC Four presenter has warned that Tim Davie’s plans to make the channel a repeats service will lead to more “populist” programming.
The station has the BBC’s oldest viewership and was established in 2002 to provide an “intellectually and culturally enriching” alternative to mainstream television.
But in March director-general Mr Davie unveiled plans to make it a repeats channel for archive programmes, as the BBC prioritises “high-impact” shows for younger viewers on BBC Two and iPlayer over documentaries with niche audiences.
