AC regents complete purchase for future First Responders Center

Nearly five months after the Amarillo College Board of Regents authorized Chris Sharp, vice president of business affairs, to accept an offer from the Crouch Foundation for the old JC Penney building at 3701 Plains Blvd., the board approved the purchase during its Tuesday meeting. The building will be the location of the college’s new First Responders Center, bringing programs from the East and West campuses under one roof, with the potential of hosting other programs currently housed at the East Campus. The regents approved the purchase price of $625,000. According to previous Globe-News reports, the regents saw an opportunity to partner with Amarillo Independent School District s AmTech Career Academy project, which is located at 3601 Plains Blvd. With the proximity of the First Responders Center, the partnership could create further synergy between the college and the school district, officials said.

How many SAs have had Covid-19? And why does no one know? While the latest Covid-19 statistics will tell you that just over 1.4 million South Africans have tested positive, the real number is far higher. When the IRR’s Gabriel Crouse posed that question to two prominent medical professionals, both gave him the same answer – ‘that is the million-dollar question’. Below, Crouse explores the reality of Covid-19 in SA.

Paul Helmke, former president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, agreed. “Indiana already does too little to keep loaded guns out of public places and out of the hands of dangerous people. This bill would make us all less safe,” the former Republican mayor wrote in an email. No license is required to buy a firearm in Indiana, but one is required for open or concealed carry. Individuals with a conviction for a felony or misdemeanor domestic battery are ineligible, and a license can also be denied in other prescribed situations. HB 1396 is one of four so-called “constitutional carry” bills proposed by the Republican supermajority, but this one is authored by Auburn Republican Ben Smaltz and co-authored by Rep. Matt Lehman, R-Berne, two powerful members of the House majority. Smaltz is chairman of the House Public Policy Committee, where his bill is assigned and was scheduled to be heard Wednesday. Ironically, the session was canceled over concerns for violence sp

He would set a new career high for homers in ’83, with 10, though that came during Chester Arthur’s presidency. Hines won the Triple Crown in ’78, when he hit .358 with four home runs and 50 RBIs for the Providence Grays. He led baseball with a .357 batting average the following year, and his career high of 10 homers came in ’87 with the Washington Nationals. A big 1880 season with the Boston Red Stockings helped O’Rourke, a Hall of Famer, finish tied for second during this period.
