NFUS: Agricultural policy must remain devolved to Scotland

Concerns have been raised that a future UK subsidy control regime must allow for agricultural policy to remain devolved (Ian R Fleming) SCOTLAND MUST have devolved control over future agricultural and rural development spending, NFU Scotland has argued. Responding to the UK Government s consultation on how it will handle subsidies to industry now its out of the European Union, the union has raised concerns that Scottish agricultural policy must remain separate from any future UK subsidy regime. At the end of the Brexit transition period on December 31, 2020, interim subsidy control arrangements under the Trade and Co-operation Agreement came in to force that broadly mirror the EU s State Aid rules, creating breathing space while the UK Government formulated its new domestic policy.
