As we reported yesterday, while AEW Dynamite still defeated NXT in the ratings, it suffered a drop from the week before. Dynamite had 806,000 viewers and a 0.32 rating compared to NXT’s 766,000 viewers and 0.19 rating. Dynamite drew 420,000 viewers in the key 18-49 demographic. It was #3 for the night, behind MTV Challenge (839,000 viewers, 0.45) and
Real Housewives of Orange County (1,004,000 viewers, 0.35). NXT had 252,000 in the demo. It came in at #34 for the night.
Dynamite was #1 in 18-49 men for the night. It was strong with the male audience in general, also doing well in males 35-49. However they dropped in other demos, including going down to 18 in women 18-49, eighth in 18-34 overall, 12 in females 12-34 and 13 in males 12-34. NXT was #17 in males 18-49 and #6 in males 12-34. NXT s Kyle O Reilly Wins Chance to Challenge Finn Balor at New Year s Evil

Tonight Kyle O Reilly and Pete Dunne followed up their crazy battle at TakeOver WarGames between Undisputed ERA and Team McAfee with a one on one affair to decide who got the chance to challenge Finn Balor for the NXT Championship at New Year s Evil, and if you were expecting a technical showcase, you got it. Both stars dished out a myriad of counters, transitions, submissions, and brutal offense throughout the match, and both stars looked worn down about midway through. Dunne s mouthguard even got knocked out of his mouth courtesy of a running knee from O Reilly.
NXT s Dexter Lumis Hosting New Year s Evil

Tonight s NXT revealed two of the big matches set for New Year s Evil and set some of the other events in motion to fill out the card. That said, tonight also revealed who would be the host of the upcoming event, and whoever it was would have to follow Shotzi Blackheart s fantastic work as host of Halloween Havoc. That shouldn t be a problem though, as it was revealed that Dexter Lumis that would be host of the upcoming 2021 kickoff event, and he even created some of his trademark art to celebrate the announcement.
NXT Champion Finn Balor s challenger for New Year s Evil will be decided tonight.
A number one contender s match between Kyle O Reilly and Pete Dunne will take place on tonight s episode of NXT. The winner will challenge Balor at NXT New Year s Evil on Wednesday, January 6.
WWE has announced that tonight s O Reilly vs. Dunne match will have uninterrupted bell-to-bell action.
O Reilly, Dunne, Damian Priest, and Scarlett all confronted Balor last week. Balor told Scarlett to tell Karrion Kross that whenever he s ready, Balor s ready. After Priest insulted Kross and Scarlett, Kross returned later in the show and attacked Priest.
Kross will be back in action tonight, returning for the first time since suffering a separated shoulder and having to relinquish the NXT Championship this August. Kross opponent hasn t been announced.
