The bureau is encouraging community members to participate in the activities, which will be promoted through the organization’s social media sites. The theme, the Power of Travel, is meant to showcase the importance of travel. According to Roger Dow, the president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, travel generated $2.6 trillion in economic output and supported 16 million jobs prior to the pandemic.

Incumbent Andy Ezard and candidate Nicole Riley are the two choices on the ballot. If re-elected, Ezard will begin his 13th year in office. He said he by the possibility of keeping the helm as mayor, both because of what he already has accomplished and to finish what he’s started. “I would really like to see it all through,” he said of projects such as the fiber optic internet project and ongoing upkeep of roads and sewers. “I love Jacksonville and our community.”

The Convention & Visitors Bureau’s “Foodie Challenge” is unique compared to the others being hosted throughout the state of Illinois. According to the announcement, the weekly challenge during the months of February and March are to help push direct sales while having locals highlight what establishment has the best food and drink. Executive Director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Brittany Henry has lots to share and says the goal is to offer help.

Community asked to unite in candlelight s glow Darren Iozia, darren.iozia@myjournalcourier.com FacebookTwitterEmail A Morgan County pastor who wants a gift of community unity as 2020 comes to an end is asking residents to light a candle, step outside and sing the Christmas carol “Silent Night” at 6 p.m. today. “It’s just to bring a little peace and comfort,” said Robb Roper, pastor at Durbin United Methodist Church in Franklin. The idea for the Community Christmas Eve Candle Lighting, sponsored by the Jacksonville Area Conference of Churches, resonated with Roper. “I have just been thinking about this year and wanted to show solidarity,” Roper said, adding that people can participate from the safety of their homes or as part of small, community gatherings while still practicing social distancing.
