Niekro, often referred to by his knuckleball-referencing nickname of Knucksie, spent 24 seasons (1964 through 1987) in the Major Leagues and pitched until he was 48. He was the last active player born in the 1930s, and by the time he retired seemed like he had been around forever (his white hair and wizened countenance helped solidify this impression). What s in a (team) name?, Part 1 By JohnW53 on Jan 3, 2021, 4:38am CST +
Over the years, picking a name for a new professional sports team has become a complicated process, often involving consultants, focus groups and contests in which fans are invited to submit proposed names.
Teams frequently want a name that is striking, if not downright bizarre. Case in point: the Seattle Kraken, who will begin play in the National Hockey League in 2021-22.
Two of my all-time favorite names belonged to minor league hockey teams: the Toledo Goaldiggers and the Macon Whoopees.

Ali, who made $115,000 a year, had been on administrative leave since September, when Curry s office notified him he was under investigation for alleged workplace misconduct.
That investigation is ongoing and confidential, and Ali, in his resignation letter to Curry s administration, said he remains unaware of any specific allegations but look(s) forward to the completion of the investigation and remain confident the Inspector General will conclude that I did not engage in any wrongdoing. Ali said he is leaving to take a position outside government.
No. 4 Georgia hosted No. 8 Florida on Nov. 7 for the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. The Gators had previously played a game against the Missouri Tigers the previous week after being off for three weeks due to half of the team coming down with COVID-19, postponing two of their games against the LSU Tigers and the Missouri Tigers. The LSU game was moved back to Dec. 12, and the Missouri Tigers game was moved back to Oct. 31.
The Florida Gators defeated the Bulldogs 44 – 28 to take control of the SEC East and putting themselves in position to reach the SEC Championship game on Dec. 19 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia which they did.
