Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and Kebbi State Governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu, in a statement, last Friday, declared that all party members from all zones were free to contest any position in the next general election.
But credible sources in the APC confided in our correspondent on Monday in Abuja, that some APC governors and other party stalwarts were not comfortable with the development.
One of the sources said the governors, especially those from the South, were not comfortable with the statement alleging that there was no official meeting of the governors where the issue of zoning was extensively deliberated upon and decisions reached before the statement.

Tongues are wagging over the possibility of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee to organise an elective national convention not later than June this year.
There are twists and turns, dark clouds and anxiety as pundits are arguing that the much-touted June convention date is shaky and may hit the rocks.
Impeccable sources confided in Daily Trust Saturday yesterday that the APC top echelon is still battling to unite members, bury internal crisis in state chapters, reach key decisions on the issue of zoning, organise ward, local government, state and zonal congresses as prelude to the convention.
The Buni-led committee, which was first given a six-month timeframe to address critical issues in the party, got an extension of six months in December last year. In extending the tenure of the committee, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party said their convention, where a new set of NWC members would emerge, would be held after the party’s membership revalidation and registration.
The exercise is ongoing across the country, and barring any change, the convention will be held before the end of the tenure of the Buni-led committee.
Multiple party sources told our reporters that six chieftains of the party from the North have commenced consultations for the chairmanship position. All of them are former governors who played vital roles in the formation of the party in 2013. All the aspirants are, however, yet to formally declare their intentions for the seat.

Four months to the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), top shots of the party have commenced intense underground moves and consultations for the ruling party s national chairmanship seat.
The Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee was inaugurated on June 25, 2020, to administer the party s affairs following the dissolution of the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC), which will lapse in June this year.
