Tennessee State University announced on Wednesday a partnership with the African Methodist Episcopal Church to provide digital opportunities for students in West and South Africa. With this partnership, eligible high school students will not only earn both high school and college credit but gain technology skills with access to digital resources.  In an interview, Vice President of the Smart Technology Innovation Center at TSU, Robbie Melton, said this program s purpose to spark an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics studies.

JMC Library s board of trustees meet, discuss upcoming summer plans

WBBJ TV May 26, 2021 The library’s board of trustees met for their monthly meeting Wednesday evening. They discussed upcoming summer reading programs for the kids, themes, and budgeting their grants and funding. Chairman of the board of trustees, Elaine Christian says they are excited to be apart of Jackson-Madison County’s Bicentennial celebration, which will kick-off in August. “We house the history and the treasures of what’s made this community so special, so we’re in the process of planning programming and events along with the bicentennial commission to celebrate these 200 years,” said Christian. The Bicentennial Birthday Celebration will kick-off at The Amp this summer.

JMCSS updates progress on community projects

WBBJ TV May 20, 2021 JACKSON, Tenn. The Jackson-Madison County School Board is moving forward with four projects throughout the district. Those projects are the Jackson Academic STEAM Academy, the JMCSS Teaching and Learning Center, Pope School K-8, and a multipurpose stadium, according to a news release. Federal funding from Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund, or ESSER 2.0, allowed the school system to begin several of these projects, including transforming the former Malesus Elementary School to become the physical facility for JASA, the release says. “As the second largest system in West Tennessee, Jackson-Madison County has the fiscal capacity to improve several areas of need. What you’re seeing now is a joint effort from the school system and local government to apply the strategic application needed to address long- standing needs. JMCSS workforce development center to have seven programs, expand options

View Comments A workforce development center being renovated behind Jackson Central-Merry Early College High will have seven programs available for all Jackson-Madison County School System high schools, house the renowned Local Options and Opportunities Program (LOOP) and offer more than one path to students goals, according to career and technical education director and JCM-ECH principal Nathan Lewis. Each umbrella area – health sciences, welding and advanced manufacturing – will have a classroom with a lab adjacent to it for students to immediately transition to hands-on activities to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom. Under health science, there are four programs: Diagnostic Services, Nursing Services, Sport and Human Performance and Therapeutic Services. Advanced manufacturing includes mechatronics and machining, and welding is its own program.
