Officer shoots suspected shoplifter at shopping mall in Miami-Dade, reports say

A suspected shoplifter was shot by a police officer at The Falls shopping center in southwest Miami-Dade County, reports say.
The officer chased the suspected shoplifter out of the Macy’s after 8 p.m. on Friday, WSVN-Ch. 7 reported. After seeing a weapon, the officer fired his gun and shot him, Miami-Dade police said. A knife was found at the scene, police said.
The injured person was taken to Jackson South Medical Center, The Miami Herald reported. His condition was unknown.

KENDALL, Fla. – A gun-shaped knife led police to shoot a shoplifting suspect Friday night at The Falls in Kendall, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.
Just before 8:30 p.m., police were called to a possible shoplifting incident near the Macy’s store, according to Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, a spokesman for the department.
“As the subject was walking out of the store, they attempted to detain the individual and that’s when he produced what appeared to be a firearm,” Zabaleta said.
A police officer was arrested Tuesday on DUI charges in southwest Miami-Dade, although she refused to provide a blood sample or conduct a field sobriety test, authorities said.
