The NHL Trade deadline has passed and as expected nothing materialized that would take the Rangers off course. “We made a number of calls, took a number of calls, went through a number of scenarios, and it’s clear we have a plan in place.,” General Manager Jeff Gorton said today. “Nothing that came along was going to add to what we wanted to do and was something we felt was going to help us, short term or long term.”

In 2019, Bobby Trivigno had to watch the National Championship from the stands after being suspended for a hit in the semifinals. Two years later, he skated off the ice with the Frozen Four’s Most Outstanding Player award after UMass beat St. Cloud State, 5-0, to win the program’s first title Saturday at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

The University of Massachusetts won its first Division I National Championship in men’s hockey on Saturday, beating St. Cloud State 5-0 in the Frozen Four title game in Pittsburgh.
Aaron Bohlinger and Reed Lebster scored in the first period, Philip Lagunov and Matthew Kessel added goals in the second, and Bobby Trivigno rounded out the scoring in the third for UMass (20-5-4). Filip Lindberg made 25 saves for the shutout, as the Minutemen conceded just four goals in four games en route to the title. St. Cloud State (20-11-0) was back in the Frozen Four for the first time since 2013.

During his media teleconference Friday, UMass forward Anthony Del Gaizo mused about the final hurdle in front of the Minutemen and what it would mean to clear it.
On Saturday at 7 p.m., Del Gaizo and the UMass hockey team will face St. Cloud State in the national championship game at the Frozen Four at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.
