STRATTON MOUNTAIN, Vt. The Hartford High girls lacrosse team appears intent on standing atop VPA Division II until someone finds the temerity to knock them off.
The Hurricanes bounced back from their first loss of the season over the weekend by dominating Stratton Mountain to the tune of an 18-4 defeat on Monday. Hartford (13-1) used a pair of quick first-half bursts to take control, riding six-goal performances from Adi Cadwell and Zoe Pfeiffer to victory.
Cadwell, Caroline Hamilton (four goals) and Pfeiffer scored within the game’s first three minutes to get Hartford started. The Canes took control for good with four goals in less than two minutes from Chloe Jensen, Pfeiffer and twice from Cadwell late in the half and cruised from there.

BRADFORD, Vt. Two of Thetford Academy baseball’s three losses this season have been no-hitters. On Saturday at Oxbow High, the Panthers were finally on the right side of that feat.
Junior Ethan Marshia dominated against the Olympians, holding them hitless in a 4-0 Thetford win. Two walks and an error separated Marshia from a perfect game. He struck out eight in his complete-game no-hitter.
“Ethan pitched extremely well today,” Panthers head coach Phil Chaput said. “He mostly used his fastball to keep Oxbow hitters off balance early and used his breaking ball in the late innings to continue to keep them off balance.”

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. Zoey Pfeiffer added to her own record book with seven goals and one assist to lead the Hartford High girls lacrosse team to an 18-7 victory at St. Johnsbury on Tuesday afternoon.
The eight points make Pfeiffer, a senior, the all-time leading scorer in Hurricanes program history. Hartford improved to 2-0 with the win and was led by strong performances on both ends of the field, according to coach Heather Hartford.
“St. Johnsbury took the early lead, but the girls battled right back with overall great team play. The defense communicated well, the offense was very fluent and both goalies represented the team well,” Hartford said.
