Longtime Andalusia Superintendent Retires After 35 Years

Alabama News Superintendent Ted Watson says he is retiring after one of the toughest school years in the history of his 35 year career. The Andalusia school system was one of the few in Alabama that continued in-person learning during the pandemic for the entire school year. “Our kids most of them came to school and so our teachers were adamant that they wanted to make sure they taught those kids, and so as a result of that we had school from day one. And where as today a lot of schools are making plans to re-open, we never closed.” – Ted Watson, Andalusia Superintendent

Montgomery Public School System Is Working On Changing School Names

Alabama News The Montgomery Public School system is Currently working on changing the names of three of the high schools. Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Sidney Lanier are all names of notable confederate men. The school board feels as though the names should no longer be on these Montgomery County High Schools. They are looking to replace the names with people who have made a positive impact in history. The board currently has two Chairpersons’ who have teamed up to form a special committee that will handle the name changes. This committee is allowing the residents in the school system to help come up with the name changes for the three schools.

Reaction to the 7 People Who Were Shot on South Court Street Monday Night

Alabama News Updated: Police are still investigating the incident that lead to 7 people being shot on the 3800 block of South Court Street in Montgomery. This recent incident raises the questions about what can be done about the crime spike in Montgomery. The crime in Montgomery has is significantly higher in these past 5 months then it was during early 2020. District 7 City Councilor, Clay McInnis expressed how he feels about this recent crime happening in his district. “It’s just really heartbreaking that were dealing with these issues but we have to get ahead of it. not dealing with it and also running away from it and not acknowledging that its happening isn’t a solution either.”-Clay McInnis

Day Two of Storm Clean Up in Prattville: Damage at the Lambert Home

Alabama News Updated: The Lambert Family home off of Old Farm Lane was in the direct path of the EF-1 tornado that hit Prattville on Tuesday. Mr. Lambert and his wife were safely in their home when the tornado passed, destroying trees in its path, some even hitting the home. “I was sitting right here watching the ball game and about 6 o’clock my wife came running to the door and said we need to get inside and it got really dark, I didn’t hear any real loud noises but then the wind and all kicked up, and within 5 minutes it was just total destruction before i could get into the door you could hear the trees falling on the house and everything else.”
