JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - Reports early Tuesday morning in northern Jefferson County are multiple people are injured and there’s major structural damage after severe storms moved through the area overnight.
Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates has confirmed one fatality. Jefferson County Superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin confirmed the victim was a 14-year-old freshman at Fultondale High School.
Survey crews with the National Weather Service found at least high-end EF-2 tornado damage, indicating winds of 135 mph.

One person is dead and over a dozen are injured after a tornado tore through Fultondale late Monday night, leaving the area significantly damaged.
Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates confirms there was one death related to the Fultondale tornado. No further details were released by Yates.
Governor Kay Ivey issued a statement Tuesday morning saying “The people of Fultondale took a hard hit last night I’m grieved over the loss of life, injuries, homes and damaged businesses. I offer my prayers and deepest sympathies and pledge the full support and resources our state has to offer. I am with you, Fultondale!”

One person is dead after a tornado tore through an Alabama city north of Birmingham Monday night, leaving the area with crumpled buildings and downed trees. Fultondale Fire Chief Justin McKenzie confirmed the death to CBS News, adding that 17 others were brought to hospitals and 11 more were treated at the scene.
Police Chief D.P. Smith said a young man trapped in the basement of his home was the person who lost his life. Smith said he was pronounced dead at the scene around 3 a.m. Tuesday, AL.com reported.
Smith said a tree fell onto the victim s home, causing it to collapse. The victim and his family took shelter in the basement and were trapped inside, Smith said.
