BLOOMSBURG, Pa. Students on the campus of Bloomsburg University were packing their belongings as the semester is over.
But when students return in the fall, there will be a key element missing from the university, its Greek Life.
Bloomsburg says it is terminating its fraternity and sorority life programs.
Freshman Ashley Wheeler believes this will make potential students choose other universities.
“Because I know a lot of people who just wanted to come here to join sororities. So, them doing that, that s really bad, so,” said Wheeler.
Bloomsburg University slaps immediate ban on fraternities, sororities
Updated 9:32 AM;
After months of keeping the Greek system on probation, Bloomsburg University officials have announced they will terminate all sorority and fraternity programs at the state-run school.
University spokesman Tom McGuire told WNEP that the decision, which took effect Thursday, was triggered by repeated violations by Greek groups.
It came days after sophomore nursing major Leah Burke died following an incident on steps outside a frat house, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Montour County Coroner Scott E. Lynn told the Inquirer Burke’s death “is not considered suspicious nor was it trauma related, and nothing nefarious was involved. We are looking at a potential undiagnosed medical condition which requires further testing.”

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (AP) Bloomsburg University is doing away with Greek life, effective immediately.
The state-owned university said it has severed ties with all 16 of its fraternities and sororities, both local and national. Bloomsburg announced the decision on Thursday in a two-sentence email to the university community.
Bloomsburg officials have not said why they disbanded the Greek life system, but the move comes after years of problems at the school’s fraternities and sororities, including allegations of hazing, alcohol abuse and sexual assault, according to the Press Enterprise newspaper.
After an 18-year-old freshman, Justin King, fell to his death in September 2019, a wrongful death lawsuit filed by his family said he had consumed alcohol at a fraternity or sorority rush party hours earlier. Bloomsburg shut down eight fraternities and sororities after his death.

After releasing their video for Cracks in the Pavement last March, Telephone House is ready for their
Pendulum EP release party Thursday evening at Wild Detectives in Oak Cliff. To make the celebration extra special, the duo will expand to a full seven-piece band for the occasion.

Despite losing their lead singer Dave Williams in nu metal s heyday, Drowning Pool has remained stalwart in the underground metal scene for almost 20 years since. The last 10 of those years, the band has been led by singer Jasen Moreno, who was featured on the band s last two albums. The band has teased a new album since 2017, but no solid news has surfaced yet on that front. After all these
