Crime Stoppers offers reward in death of 25-year-old Jaleel Carter-Tate

The Columbus Dispatch Crime Stoppers of Central Ohio is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest or indictment in connection with a homicide last September in Columbus South Side. At about 9:45 pm. on Sept. 29, 2020, Columbus police responded to a ShotSpotter alert of a shooting near the intersection of East Whittier and Gilbert streets. Responding officers found 25-year-old Jaleel Carter-Tate lying between vehicles in front of a home on the 800 block of East Whittier, suffering from a gunshot wound.  Carter-Tate, of the South Side, was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus fire paramedics at 9:52 p.m. His death was the city s 116th homicide in 2020 and remains unsolved.

His mother, whose husband, William Carter, was murdered on Sept. 22, 1999, says she has to fight for justice in her son s case. “I know there were four people there,” said Tracy Tate. “Four people that I know of were there and my baby ends up dead.”
