Sensex and Nifty opened lower today amid weak Asian markets. While Sensex was trading 317 points lower at 52,254, Nifty lost 81 points to 15,646.
On Thursday, benchmark indices ended in the red in line with negative global cues. Sensex slumped 486 points as rising cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant in multiple countries and hawkish comments from the US Federal Reserve spooked investors. The 30-share index ended 485.82 points lower at 52,568 and Nifty dropped 151.75 points to 15,727.
Key benchmark indices are trading on a weak note in early trade on selling pressure in index pivotals. At 9:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 225.77 points or 0.43% at 52,343.17. The Nifty 50 index was down 59.50 points or 0.38% at 15,668.40. Asian stocks are trading lower on Friday as Covid worries resurfaced in the region.
The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.35%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 0.23%.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, is positive. On the BSE, 1416 shares rose and 1053 shares fell. A total of 101 shares were unchanged.

Results today: A total of 15 companies, including Delta Corp, Suryavanshi Spinning Mills, and Vikas Lifecare are set to release quarterly earnings on Friday.
TCS: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Q1 FY22 performance missed estimates even as the net profit jumped 28.5 per cent YoY to Rs 9,008 crore and revenue rose 18.5 per cent YoY to Rs 45,411 crore. According to Bloomberg poll, analysts were estimating revenue of Rs 45,767.5 crore and net profit of Rs 9,391.9 crore for the quarter gone by.
Bharat Dynamics: The company signed a contract worth about Rs 499 crore with Ministry of Defence for manufacture and supply of Akash Missiles to the Indian Air Force.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) reported 2.57% fall in net profit to Rs 9008 crore on 3.9% rise in revenue to Rs 45,411 crore in Q1 June 2021 over Q4 March 2021.

Benchmark indices opened on a flat note today a day after logging record closing highs. Sensex was trading 23 points higher at 53,078 and Nifty gained 4 points to 15,883. Tech Mahindra, IndusInd Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Auto, NTPC and Titan were the top Sensex gainers.
On Wednesday, Sensex closed above 53,000 level for the first time propelled by gains in metal and capital goods stocks. The 30-stock index rose 194 points to close at its fresh lifetime high of 53,054.76. Nifty climbed 61.40 points to its record peak of 15,879.
