Ryuk s Rampage Has Lessons for the Enterprise
The Ryuk ransomware epidemic is no accident. The cybercriminals responsible for its spread have systematically exploited weaknesses in enterprise defenses that must be addressed.
The Ryuk ransomware gang is hiring . and that s bad news. In a conversation with Natalia Godyla of Microsoft in January, Jake Williams, the founder of Rendition Infosec, noted that his team spotted job advertisements in Dark Web forums from accounts associated with Ryuk s operators. They re looking for experienced ransomware operators, and they have a whole set of criteria, including that they want to see a history that you re getting an average $400,000 payout, Williams said. They haven t asked for help in the past. They have more work than they can handle.

A group of criminals behind a stealthy backdoor known as more eggs is targeting professionals with fake job offers tailored to them based on information from their LinkedIn profiles. The gang is selling access to systems infected with the backdoor to other sophisticated cybercrime groups including FIN6, Evilnum and Cobalt Group that are known to target organizations from various industries.

Microsoft has confirmed that its latest Windows 10 update, version 21H1, will arrive in the spring of this year, first in a tech community post on Feb. 15 and in a more formal company blog post on Feb. 17. This follows Microsoft s usual pattern of rolling out two major Windows 10 updates per year, with this one following the latest October 2020 update.
