UMNO leaders have been rather secretive about what went on at their supreme council meeting in Janda Baik last Friday (Feb 19).
Some of them claimed it was a normal meeting and the highlight of the evening was the musang king durians from a Pahang orchard.
But it was one of the most significant meetings in months because of an “ultimatum” from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin has asked Umno to decide whether the party wants to contest the general election as part of Perikatan Nasional and he wants an answer by March 1.
This was conveyed to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the “meeting of three presidents” from Bersatu, Umno and PAS last Monday (Feb 15).

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22: The defence team of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been told to advise him to refrain from attending meetings at least a week before his trial date, after the UMNO president’s corruption case was postponed again today as he is undergoing quarantine.
In granting the adjournment, High Court Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah said this was not the first time the former deputy prime minister’s trial involving Yayasan Akalbudi fund had to be postponed for this reason.
KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 22): Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi s criminal breach of trust (CBT) and money laundering trial has been postponed as he came in close contact with fellow Supreme Council member Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz, who is now confirmed positive for Covid-19.
Zahid was with Johan and other Umno Supreme Council members at a party retreat in Janda Baik, Bentong, Pahang.
Lawyer Hamidi Mohd Noh informed the court that his client had chaired two meetings, one at 3pm last Friday and a second one at 8pm that same night where Johan was present.
“We got to know from media reports that Johan has been tested positive with Covid-19 when he went for testing on Saturday and the results were known yesterday. So my client has to be in quarantine for 10 days as he was in close contact,” he said.
