Thompson played 10 seasons for the Houston Oilers as an undrafted, special teams linebacker and was hired by then Packers General Manager Ron Wolf in 1992 as a scout. His diligent work ethic and devotion to scouting had him rise through the ranks to become director of pro personnel. Thompson left Green Bay to follow Mike Holmgren to the Seattle Seahawks where he was the Vice-President of Football Operations. After Wolf retired with the Packers in 2001, Head Coach Mike Sherman was also given the GM duties. Packers President Bob Harlan convinced Thompson to return as General Manager in 2005 and after one season, he fired Sherman and hired Mike McCarthy. Thompson’s very first draft choice was Aaron Rodgers. The Thompson-McCarthy tandem produced a Super Bowl XLV Champion in 2010. Two of the greatest defensive backs in the history of the Green Bay Packers franchise are one step closer to becoming members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Leroy Butler and Charles Woodson were among the 15 Modern Era Player Finalists for the Class of 2021 announced Tuesday night.
For Butler, itâs the second straight year making it to the final fifteen while Woodson made the cut in his first year of eligibility. Both played key roles in the two most recent Super Bowl Championships.
Butler was a second round draft choice out of Florida State in 1990. His career started at cornerback but flourished when he moved to safety. He played 181 games over his 12 year career with the Packers, earning Pro Bowl honors four times and he was also a four time, first team All Pro selection.  He was named to the NFLâs All-Decade Team for the 1990âs.  Incidentally, heâs the only member of
