With many Indigenous languages in danger of extinction, there is a growing movement of up-and-coming young, First Nations leaders taking on the challenge of not only learning and immersing themselves in these rare and special languages, but also passing on their new knowledge to even younger generations.
Our guest on this show is Jessica Starlund, a 30 year old Gitxsan Matriarch with a passion for her culture and preserving it through the Gitxsan language.
She specializes in Early Childhood Education, teaching kids at the school in Gitwangak and more recently made headlines for her work helping to illustrate a book of Gitxsan teachings called “Granny’s Little Book on Virtues” compiled by Dr. Jane Smith.

The City of Terrace has voted to amend the Official Community Plan Bylaw to allow the NSD Inland Port and Developments project to proceed.
This means that Progressive Ventures can proceed into the next phases of planning for the proposed project, which includes preparing for a Rezoning followed by a Development Permit. Conversations with other project stakeholders can also proceed.
Rezoning is estimated to be completed in March of this year and then technical planning can resume.
It’s cold out there.
