Punjab government concedes to industrialists wish, gives relaxation in curbs | Ludhiana News

Traders dealing in clothing items, cosmetics, and electronics are up in arms against the curbs LUDHIANA: Conceding to the demands of the industrialists, the state government has given a big relief to the shops dealing in industrial supplies, including hardware items, tools, motors, pipes. In an order issued on Tuesday, the additional chief secretary said the industrialists dealing in such products have been given permission to open their shops and cater to the requirements of the factories. According to the order, some other categories of shops fertilisers, seeds, insecticides, pesticides, agriculture machinery, agriculture & horticulture implements, kirana and grocery shops, including PDS stores too have been allowed to open. Besides, retail and wholesale liquor vends have also been allowed to open, but as per the order, all these categories of shops and establishments can operate till 5pm only and will not be allowed to operate during the weekend lockdown.

Ludhiana: Nearly 10 days after Union finance minister Nirmala Seetharman announced import duty cut up to 5% on certain steel products, a positive impact is being seen on the rates of domestic steel raw materials, which have come down between Rs 4,000 to 8,000 per tonne. The slashing of import duty was welcomed by Punjab’s engineering goods manufacturing sector especially the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), manufacturing bicycles and its parts, sewing machines, auto parts, etc that had been suffering due to a steep hike in the steel raw material rates. However, despite the fall in rates, the MSMEs are still not happy, as they feel that rates need further correction, since they are still very high compared to their cost 6-12 months earlier.
