In NC, it s been nearly a year since new COVID-19 cases were lower than they were Sunday

Dr. Christopher Ohl, an infectious disease expert with Wake Forest Baptist Health, said Friday he’s concerned that CDC s latest guidance may be misinterpreted by the unvaccinated that the pandemic is over even he agrees that those fully vaccinated should be allowed more social activities. North Carolinians are seeing another potential sign that the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic might have passed. The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reported Monday that the state had 688 new cases on Sunday, along with 1,066 reported on Friday and 864 on Saturday. Sunday s daily case count is the lowest since 431 on Aug. 17, which reflected a data-gathering glitch at the time. Before that, North Carolina had not seen a lower number of new cases since June 9, when 676 were reported.

Vaccine providers target mass-vaccination sites or clinics for first round of doses for ages 12 to 15

The first round of vaccinating youths ages 12 to 15 is taking place at local mass-vaccination sites, although there are plans to potentially have doses available in pediatric offices by early fall. Novant Health Inc. and Forsyth County Department of Public Health began providing first doses to that age group Thursday at their respective mass-vaccination sites at Hanes Mall and 799 Highland Ave. Wake Forest Baptist Health’s Brenner Children’s Hospital will hold a vaccination clinic for teens Saturday at Winston-Salem State University’s Anderson Center, 1545 Reynolds Park Road. Appointments can be made by calling (336) 702-6843. Novant offers walk-in vaccinations at Hanes Mall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, although making an appointment is preferable. The number of walk-in slots is subject to change based on supply.

COVID-19 Support Services Program Helped More Than 41,800 Households with Quarantine and Isolation Supports Across 29 Counties

RALEIGH     The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 Support Services Program has helped more than 41,800 NC households isolate or quarantine during COVID-19.     Launched in August 2020 in COVID-19 hot spots throughout the state, the Support Services Program focuses on communities hit hardest by COVID-19.     In addition to food assistance such as home-cooked meals and groceries, the Support Services Program offered recipients financial relief payments, COVID-19-related supplies (such as masks or hand sanitizer), transportation to medical or vaccine appointments, and medication delivery to individuals who needed support to be able to quarantine or isolate due to COVID-19. The Support Services Program started in 20 counties and later expanded to 29 counties.

Cooper lifts most COVID-19 social gathering restrictions, but leaves some mask mandates in place

Gov. Roy Cooper said Friday he has lifted — effective immediately — all COVID-19 mass-gathering social restrictions on indoor and outdoor capacity limits while keeping certain mask mandates and recommendations in place. The end of most restrictions is designed for the 46% of North Carolinians ages 16 and older who are considered as fully vaccinated, as well as the 51%, or about 4 million, who have received at least one dose. Cooper said it was prudent of his administration to take nearly 24 hours to review the CDC s recommendations and its implications for North Carolina before choosing to adhere to the updated guidance. Cooper called these latest restrictions lifting steps as great news for the people of North Carolina.
