We re just over a week away from the start of early voting for the May 1 Local Option (municipal) election date in Texas.
In Lubbock County there are two high-profile elections occurring in this election off-year .
The first is for City of Lubbock voters, as they will decide whether or not to pass an ordinance which would ban abortions from being performed in Lubbock. You may have also heard this proposed ordinance as referred to as the Sanctuary City for the Unborn .
Using the rarely used petition process, supporters of the proposed ordinance gathered the necessary petition signatures to present the ordinance to the Lubbock City Council last year. The council unanimously voted against the ordinance, and Lubbock s city charter now requires a vote of the city s citizens.
