It’d been 10 months since the band members of sister-led, world-folk music outfit
Rising Appalachia had seen each other, much less played music together. A grand reunion took place for a one-off live stream show in 2020 at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC, but positivity and creativity took root, and the very next day the band remained in the studio with no plan except to “Press record and see what happens.” What poured out of the six members of Rising Appalachia was nothing short of divine musical guidance a full-length album dubbed
The Lost Mystique of Being in the Know. Out today, this new collection of nine songs is abstract; a concept album of sorts of which the band calls “the most dynamic fun we have ever had in the studio.” Rising Appalachia Leah Song, Chloe Smith, Biko Casini, Arouna Diara, Duncan Wickel, and David Brown removed themselves from the outcome, let the songs lead, and were rewarded with a gorgeous snapshot of not just the music, but the t

Mexico s Output Growth Slows Outlook Improves Further this post authored by Jesus Canas and Chloe Smith
Mexico’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth slowed to a 1.6 percent annualized rate in first quarter 2021 from 13.7 percent in fourth quarter 2020. Nevertheless, the consensus GDP growth forecast for 2021 compiled by Banco de México increased from 3.7 to 4.5 percent in March.[ 1]
The upward revision was likely driven by stronger U.S. growth and increased synchronization in the global economic recovery. Mexico still faces headwinds from COVID-19. New UK Election Law to Ban Postal Vote Harvesting
The UK government said on Friday it plans to boost election integrity by stopping postal vote harvesting, limiting proxy voting, and clamping down on voter intimidation.
This follows the announcement earlier this week that voters will be required to show photographic ID before being issued ballots at a polling station.
Under new measures announced on Friday, “postal vote harvesting” will be stopped by limiting the number of postal votes that a person may hand in on behalf of others.
Currently, anyone is able to collect postal votes from any number of electors and hand them in at a polling station, which the government said presents a risk of postal votes being appropriated and stolen, or voters completing postal ballot papers under duress.

Britainâs government will introduce a new law this year to crack down on the potential for voter fraud and intimidation by including rules requiring voters to prove their identities, a move critics said could deter people from casting ballots.
Currently, voters need to only give their name and address to be able to vote, but the government says additional measures are required to make the system fairer by also tightening the rules for absent voting and prevent voter intimidation.
