ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Daniel Gutierrez fell in love with Barelas.
A California native by way of the University of Illinois, Gutierrez arrived in the historic Albuquerque neighborhood in 2007 as part of his dissertation research on Chicano identities.
What Gutierrez found was a home he didn’t know he was looking for, and he has stuck around ever since.

Gutierrez is now head of New Mexico MainStreet, a state Economic Development Department program that partners with local groups in a “bottoms-up approach” to transform downtowns across the state. The goal is to boost business, artistic and cultural activities in those areas.

Fairfield PAL member, Enrique Prado, has been selected as the Solano First Federal Credit Union Student of the Month for February, 2021.
Enrique, a junior at Armijo High School, is planning on attending Solano Community College after high school to study mechanical engineering. His favorite food is Spam Musubi and he enjoys reading during his free time. His favorite part of the PAL program is the social interactions and activities he gets to participate in. Enrique is an active member of the PAL Student Council and his peers’ credit him for his dedication to helping others.
Fairfield restaurant finds opportunity during Covid-19 shutdown
FAIRFIELD While the Covid-19 pandemic has been devastating to many local businesses, one Fairfield restaurant used the shutdown as an opportunity to launch a new venture.
La Costa Azul Food and Beverage Company was created in the early months of the pandemic to market and distribute a kind of Bloody Mary-styled mix for beer.
“The mix is made out of a tomato base, but it has a lot of lime and Mexican spices,” said Marcoantonio Rodriguez, the man behind the success story. He said there is a secret ingredient as well. All hush-hush.
