Press Release: A Backpack for Every Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten Student! Backpacks distributed to children in transitional kindergarten and kindergarten in the Fairfield-Suisun School District were filled with a wide array of school supplies, virtual learning tools and books. (Courtesy photo) Fairfield, CA (February 26, 2021) Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) is the fortunate recipient of a generous donation of nearly 2,000 brand new backpacks stuffed with school supplies, virtual learning materials and books for every student enrolled in a FSUSD Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten class. Solano County Office of Education partnered with First 5 Solano Commission and Solano County Library Literacy Services to provide this resource to the young students of Fairfield-Suisun, and other school districts in Solano County.

Solano students receive Travis Credit scholarships

Solano students receive Travis Credit scholarships FAIRFIELD Mariah Levy, a senior at Vanden High School, and Shelbri Gates, a senior at Mare Island Technology Academy, have received the first-ever Travis Credit Union Foundation scholarship. The $500 awards were “developed to motivate and support college-aged youth from underserved communities to pursue post-secondary educational opportunities,” according to a statement released by the credit union. The scholarships were announced during the annual Life after High School event, hosted in partnership with the Solano County Office of Education. The event included 100 foster and homeless students from more than 30 local high schools in Solano, Napa, Yolo and Contra Costa counties.

Fairfield-Suisun board votes to resume in-person learning once Solano County goes ‘red’ Fairfield-Suisun School District Superintendent Kris Corey FAIRFIELD The Fairfield-Suisun School District governing board voted Thursday to return to in-person learning once Solano County returns to the state’s red tier level. Schools must have an approved Covid-19 reopening plan to do so. Dr. Bela Matyas, the county’s public health officer, said this week that several smaller schools had already submitted their reopening plans for review. Matyas also said the county is on the cusp of re-entering the red tier of the color-coded Covid-19 monitoring system. Doing so would allow school districts to open up classrooms for transitional kindergarten through sixth grade.
