Plainview ISD School Board extends temporary emergency paid sick leave for employees

Plainview ISD School Board extends temporary emergency paid sick leave for employees FacebookTwitterEmail Plainview Independent School District granted employees a temporary benefit of 10 days of emergency paid sick leave this year to aid those affected by COVID-19. During a regular meeting Thursday night, the PISD School Board unanimously approved a resolution to extend that benefit through June 30, 2021. The leave was authorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act under the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) that recommended a 14-day quarantine, which has since been reduced to seven to 10 days. Looking at this from a school week perspective, the 14-day quarantine would ideally include 10 school days and two weekends, said Brandy Merrick, chief people officer for the district.

Community mourning loss of PISD officer

Community mourning loss of PISD officer FacebookTwitterEmail Officer Robert Rivera, 45, died Wednesday of COVID-19. Rivera worked with the Plainview ISD PD since the department was established in 2019. Prior to that, he worked as a Hale County Sheriff’s deputy. Rivera was a former Plainview ISD school board member and a former member of the Hale County Housing Authority. In a statement from the school district provided to The Herald, Rivera is described as a “good man, a great friend, an amazing father and a loving husband.” He is also characterized as a “true friend.” “He was always one to give and never to take,” reads the statement from the district. “He would rather support others in their need while looking past his own. Officer Rivera was a man of sound character with a giving spirit and pure heart. He loved the students he protected, enjoyed the company of PISD educators and respected the peers with whom he served.”
