(WCBS 880) A homeowner on Long Island says she has had to cancel gatherings, cannot enjoy her backyard and is terrified of stepping outside because of a hoard of honeybees. Ann Patricia Dillion and her wife say they had to cancel their Mother’s Day backyard party on Sunday because the swarm has grown so large at their Williston Park home, that they cannot go outside without encountering several bees. The bees have set up in a tree in the backyard and on the outside of the home’s chimney.

Like us on Facebook.   To the editor: As we celebrate Nurses Week 2021, which runs from May 6 through May 12, it s a good time to reflect on how nurses are feeling the effect of the pandemic. A recent American Nurses Association survey revealed over half of nurses surveyed felt exhausted, and 43 percent were overwhelmed. Forty-two percent of Vermont nurses felt anxious, higher than the national average. One out of four nurses felt sad, with 23 percent being depressed. To avert a workforce crisis, Vermont needs to protect and value its nurses. As the largest component of the healthcare workforce, nurses need to be included in decisions about healthcare and on committee assignments.

Briefs Middle school students donate items to shelter Students at Middle School of the Kennebunks recently collected thousands of items for York County Shelter Programs. The project, organized by the seventh-grade Sebago Team, promoted community service among students, who gave 2,334 pairs of socks and 387 bottles of shampoo and conditioner in one of the largest donations ever received by the nonprofit from a school. “I am so proud of our grade 7 Sebago students and staff for their efforts on this project,” said MSK Principal Marty Bouchard. “Awareness of the needs within our communities and world are a part of our curriculum at MSK, and the kindness and selflessness shown by these students is truly inspiring.”

Bulletin Board: Turners Falls/FC Tech baseball and softball to tangle in primetime May 14 Staff Reports The battle for the Powertown will take place in primetime this spring. Turners Falls High School will host Franklin County Technical School in varsity baseball and softball on May 14 at the Bourdeau Fields Complex. Baseball will begin at 6 p.m. while softball is set for a 7 p.m. first pitch. In the bottom of the second inning in both varsity games, Turners Falls will “pass the hat” to collect money for the Food Bank of Western Mass. Fans are permitted to attend the games, but masks are required and they must be socially distanced from other families.

(WCBS 880) A Hofstra University student spoke out on Thursday as Nassau County police increased the reward offer to $20,000 for information leading to an arrest in a vicious acid attack that left the 21-year-old severely injured. The assault happened around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17 on Arlington Avenue in Elmont. Authorities say 21-year-old Nafiah Ikram was walking in the driveway of her home when she was suddenly approached by an unknown man carrying a white-colored cup containing a dark-colored substance.
