President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday night announced the country was moving to Covid-19 alert level 1, which means, among other things, that previously prohibited gatherings are now allowed and curfew is now from midnight to 4am.
Ramaphosa said the decision, taken by cabinet earlier in the day, came because the country has seen a significant decline in Covid-19 cases in recent weeks.
We presume it must be a considerable challenge for any provincial premier to prepare and deliver a state of the province address as it is for the president of the republic in respect of the Sona during an annus horribilis of the scale of the one we are living through. As a result, we have sympathy with premier Oscar Mabuyane’s speech on the state of the Eastern Cape and his administration’s performance amidst a pandemic which has locked down the country for extended periods, decimated eco.
